Will faith and forgiveness salvage their love? What happens when love and happily ever after are tempted with lust and secrets? Sexy, emotional, thought-provoking, deliciously witty and inviting, Elissa Gabrielle will put you in a trance, on a wild ride full of twists and turns so bold; leaving you wholly satisfied.
In Good to the Last Drop
|
Elissa Gabrielle returns with her best release to date. A tantalizing debut novel filled with Tenderness, Treachery and Temptation.
What lengths will a woman go to for love?
In Good to the Last Drop, Elissa Gabrielle has crafted a hilarious, sensual and twisted tale that is based on the lives of newlywed college sweethearts, Amber and Khalil. Lost in a web of deceit, Khalil and Amber struggle to remain faithful…to themselves and each other. With a memorable cast of characters that come to life with every page, the story remains gritty, sensual and all too realistic. What roles will the characters play in this web of deception? Who can they trust? Shawn, the best friend and voice of reason. Aaliyah, the gorgeous, yet seductive fiancé’. Shayla, the ghetto-fabulous bitter ex. Scott, the flaming and flamboyant queen, and Keisha, the loud and boisterous best friend and confidant. Make yourself comfortable and get ready for the ride of your life as chickens come home to roost and the strings are pulled from this fabric of treachery, love and scandal.
Read what others have to say... "Elissa Gabrielle takes you on a VIVID, SEXY, AROUSING, and FUNNY ride with everything erotica fans ask for and much, much more.....stuff you ain't never thought of." "Elissa Gabrielle writes with passion, and brings the heat in this very sexy, hot romantic thriller...erotica at its best." “Her writing is erotic, stunning and explosive. She weaves a tale of intrigue and portrays relationships the way they really are. And just like you want your lover to be, it has a sensual side as well. When you pick it up, you won’t want to put it down…unless you are “taking care of business.” Did I mention it was hot? It IS!” “With characters that come to life with every page, Elissa Gabrielle takes the reader to new heights of sexuality and drama. Her first-person accounts draw you into the story lines and let you know what you've been missing. Insightful, witty and engrossing. Few can get my attention with the first line, but she has managed to do it. Can't wait for the next journey.” "Elissa Gabrielle is the NEW VOICE OF EROTICA, ROMANCE AND SUSPENSE who unleashes a SENSUAL and deeply ENTHRALLING story that will leave even the most inhibited readers of Erotica throbbing for more, but will Amber and Khalil's love affair last after the HONEYMOON?" "Elissa Gabrielle writes with intriguing ease…captivating her reader from page 1." "Captivating characters... page-turner….very funny and will stay with a reader long after the book is finished." "Elissa Gabrielle is this generation's Maya Angelou, Amiri Baraka and Sonia Sanchez. Her visualizations of inner and outer loves, of subterranean fears laced in anger, of unrelenting urgency to evoke change and betterment, is fresh, vital, and burning with eroticism. She creates new scents from familiar smells. She is confrontation, passion, love on fire. She is to be digested, discussed and passed on. She is to be cherished, protected and honored. She is our ancestors and our children yet to be born." -Max Julien, Author, Filmmaker, Designer & Activist. Star and co-writer of The Mack
-Memphis Vaughn, Jr., Editor, www.timbooktu.com "Peace in the Storm is heartfelt, real and a must read! Royal, Founder, RAWSISTAZ Book Club, www.rawsistaz.com "Peace in the Storm is, in a very real way, a journey which forces the reader to consider the impact of one's experience upon their daily existence. It takes the measure of your heart and it melts your curiosity into the fresh breath of hope. It gives us inspiration and raw understanding our of fragility." -Reverend H. Becoming a leader in today's society was not an easy ride. On the same token, she had plenty of guidance and has had the opportunity to gain a lifetime of knowledge from her mother, Ms. Mike Bernardo, legendary record industry veteran and pioneer, NABFEME member and recipient of the Shero Award. "She is my mother and my best friend. She instilled in me that if you don't stand for something, you would fall for everything. She honestly rose to the top when there were no other African American females out there who was doing the incredible things she has done in the record industry. She definitely paved the way for African American women in the industry today. And she did it honestly!" Writing was a way for me to stay out of trouble, to keep my mind focused as a youth. Gabrielle is a graduate of the Connecticut School of Broadcasting and also holds degrees in Communications. Gabrielle is a member of the 331 Foundation-an organization which helps children whose parents were killed in violent crimes, the NAACP and NABFEME, the National Association of Black Female Executives in Music and Entertainment, a professional empowerment, networking and support base for African American women in radio, recorded music, the media, and related entertainment industry fields.

Heading: Let No Man Put Asunder
Author Sherryle Kiser Jackson penned a christian fiction story, sharing with readers what it really means to become one as man and wife. The marriage of Pastor Green and Pastor Morton included natural family members as well as the transitioning of two church families merging together to become one.
Pastor Willie Green and Harvest Baptist Church were used to their traditional services while Pastor Vanessa Morton and Mt. Pleasant Baptist church were contemporary, causing doubts and an uprising with some of the members of Harvest Baptist church when the couple met and were married. God gave the couple the vision to merge both ministries and before anything concrete could take place, all hell broke loose at Harvest.
Through the marriage transition, after being single for so long, both pastors learned important lessons that would also help them in moving forward with the vision for the churches. With all the doubts, negative words, gossip and blatant defiance, would both churches be able to come together in love and unity?
Author Jackson wrote a story with just enough detail to grab my interest and apply biblical teachings in the situations that the pastors and their congregations went through. Her characters were well rounded, and her ability to make them come alive was a plus for me. I especially loved the way she depicted one of the deacons in particular, and you can best bet there will be a follow-up to Soon and Very Soon because of him.
I recommend this book to those who are struggling with what it means to be one in marriage because what was shared was very insightful and helpful.

Houston Educator and Now Author Wants Women to Know that They Don't Have to Remain Prisoner to Their Current Circumstances
According to the CDC nearly 5.3 million incidents of intimate partner violence occur each year among U.S. Women ages 18 and older. At least 42% of women who were physically assaulted sustained injuries ranging from minor scratches and bruises to more severe complications such as broken bones. Women with a history of intimate partner violence are more likely to display behaviors that present further health risks such as substance abuse, alcoholism, and unhealthy diet-related behaviors. Psychological violence is typically accompanied by emotional or psychological abuse which leads to mental health issues such as depression, antisocial behavior, suicidal behavior and low self esteem
Local educator and author Cheryl Lacey-Donovan wants women to know that they don't have to stay prisoner to these circumstances and she intends to show them the way out one by one.
Her new book entitled "Women What the Hell are You Thinking" explores subject matter that directly impacts women and indirectly impacts society as a whole.
"Women must realize that the choices that they make directly impact their circumstances. Poor choices, poor circumstances: Good choices, good circumstances. Time is out for playing the blame game. We must all hold ourselves accountable for our current state of affairs. When we do this we then release ourselves to move on and move up. The number of women that are homeless, on drugs, the head of single parent households, and in jail is staggering. It is time for women who have been through, and ultimately overcome these obstacles, to give back to those that are still trapped."
In order to make this happen, Ms. Donovan plans to use a portion of the proceeds from the book to establish an organization that will provide assistance to women in areas such as parenting job development, education, entrepreneurship, and financial management and personal wealth building.
"Many of the women that I have encountered over the years just didn't have the role models available to assist them in these areas. They are living in a vicious cycle. Some might even call it a generational curse. Well, I intend to break the cycle and the curse. The book is only the first step."
Mentoring programs, workshops, outreach, and financial support through a business micro lending program represent the plan for the new organization.

Pretty soon she is longing for her old life back, but it may be too late when her friend is murdered and she is fingered for the crime. All That Glitters brings to the forefront the issue of jealousy and greed while showing that the saying is true: All That Glitters…ain't gold.
Join us in an Intimate Conversation With... D.L. Sparks

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I don’t know if it was a realization but more of a natural progression. My love of reading just evolved into writing.
How long does it take you to write a book?
It depends. If the characters grab hold of me out the gate 3-6 months. If I have to slap them around and get them on board…6-8 months. LOL!
What is your work schedule like when you're writing?
My work schedule pretty much is my writing. I also edit from home so 24/7 I have my hand in something literary.
What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
I like to “cast” my characters when I start a book. I will pick actors/actresses that will “play” the role in my head and I put pictures of them up around my computer while I’m working on my book.
How do books get published?
Well, when a person loves there computer there’s this thing that happens..LOL! Just kidding. My publisher is Xpress Yourself Publishing.
Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
Everywhere! I love to people watch and make up stories about what they may be talking about. I also watch movies and think “what would have happened if…” I also love to play the What IF game. That’s a great way to flesh out ideas.
When did you write your first book and how old were you?
I actually wrote my first book back in 2005. All That Glitters is actually my second novel, but the first to be published. Go figure.
What do you like to do when you're not writing?
I like to read. There are a lot of great new authors out there. I also like to watch movies but mainly when I get the chance, I just relax. I have two small kids so I don’t get much downtime, so when I do I like to read or flip channels. I am hooked on CSI Miami and House right now. But I am waiting anxiously for the season premiere of 24.
What does your family think of your writing?
They are very supportive. It’s not really a big deal to them since they know me and know how I love to read. It’s like “Oh, DL has another book in her hand or DL is at the computer again.”
What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
How cool it is to been in control of people’s lives! LOL! It’s like I can make my characters do whatever I want. Well…usually..sometimes they get a mind of their own. Then I have to chase them down and drag them back kicking and screaming.
How many books have you written?
Two. Which is your favorite? I would have to say, believe it or not, my first (untitled) book is my favorite. I think because it was my first baby. LOL!!
Do you have any suggestions to help me become a better writer?
Sure. If so, what are they? Don’t be afraid to evolve in your writing. Take classes, read books on writing, read..read..read. Do everything you can to hone your craft so you can continue to show growth in your writing and develop a following. But above all else, believe in yourself and what you’re doing. If you don’t believe in yourself no one else will.
Do you hear from your readers much?
I do get emails from time to time.
What kinds of things do they say?
Most tell me how much they loved the book or ask if there will be a sequel. I did get one from a woman who was upset because she stayed up all night reading All That Glitters and she was at work sleepy. She told me that she had to finish it before she fell asleep. LOL!

Reader Reviews
Freakishly Real!
Shaun has depicted finding, gambling and loosing love in it's truest, most honest form. I am not afraid to admit I cried a couple of times, especially at the end. Shaun has mastered the ability to capture and lock your attention, painting a picture that you see with your heart and emotions. I am blown away at how real this story is. I strongly encourage anyone to read this! — Denise Austin
Encounter the full spectrum of Human Emotions
Shaun M Mathis' book, This Hurts: A Novel certainly captures the reader's
attention holding one in rapt surrender as the story drips from the pages.
There is a hint of tenderness and compassion amid the mature and explicit
aspects of the work. Readers will be impressed with the realism which
sometimes delves into the dark sides of the human psyche. The dominating
emotions that run through a young man's body as he contemplates his
sweetheart are especially poignant. Shaun pulls no punches in this book
and has a bright future as a writer. — Gene McVay

Listen to my podcast reading
EDC: When did you first start to write?
CS: I first started writing in college outside of the papers that I wrote my English classes. My alma mater’s Black student organization Concerned Black Students had a literary publication called Black Minds that I contributed essays and poems too. After college, I taught a creative writing course for Upward Bound where I wrote a short story and more poems. It wasn’t until 2002 that I tried my hand at writing a book.
Who are you influenced by?
I was influenced largely by Sharon Draper. Her young adult novel Tears of a Tiger is very popular with students because of the way the story is told through letters, essays, articles, phone calls, etc. I also count Sharon Flake as an influence for my writing.
What is the best and worst thing about writing?
The best thing is creating a story, exploring your imagination and the thoughts that roam around in your head. I also love researching elements in the story as well as the Black History facts.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
I love Sharon Draper, Eric Jerome Dickey, Kimberla Lawson Roby, Bebe Moore Campbell, Sophie Kinsella, Meg Cabot, Judy Blume, and so many more authors.
How do you balance family life and your writing?
It’s pretty easy for me to do since I am single and don’t have any kids. The bigger struggle for me is balancing my love of reading a good book and writing a good book for others.
What was your major in college?
I majored in psychology and English with a minor in education which allowed me to teach high school English. I wanted to be a child psychologist growing up among many other things. I used my psychology background in the classroom dealing with different personalities and also in my writing with understanding my characters’ personalities.

EDC: When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
RCG: I never grew up wanting to be a writer. I never even read my first book from cover to cover until I was 26. I did however always know I would speak to large crowds for a career so I got into motivational speaking and started a personal development company. It was then that I learned that every great speaker has a book. I planned on being a great speaker so I got started on my first book, Success Is In Your Hand. While I was writing that book I began to brainstorm and schedule what books I would write and release over the next four years. Being a businessman I had to explore in my mind just how big writing could be before I put any more effort into it. As of now I have 3 more books I plan to release in 2008.
How long does it take you to write a book?
It took me one year to write my first book. I would write when I felt like it and never really put any pressure on myself to get it done. The idea for my new book My Little Black Book Of Leadership came to me back in April 2006. I wrote the Table of Contents in one day and then I put it away to release the 2nd Edition of Success Is In Your Hand. I’ve now been physically working on that book for about 6 months even though the whole thing is already written in my head. Both of my books deal a lot with my own personal life experiences so the research is pretty easy, but it still takes time to put it all together into a book.
What is your work schedule like when you're writing?
I write best in the morning. Normally after dropping my son of to school I take my laptop to the library and write for about 3 hours. Some times I’ll write everyday and sometimes I may go a week or two without writing anything. It’s weird because my first book was mostly written between 10p-2a. Not really sure why that doesn’t seem to work anymore.
What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
I don’t write my books on paper. I type them straight into the computer, get it all out and then fix it later. I actually hate typing. That’s what takes me so long to finish my books. If I could think it and it show up on the screen, I would have 10 books done by now.
How do books get published?
Traditionally, authors would take their manuscripts to the 5 big bad publishers that rule the literary empire and beg them to don their manuscript worthy of being published and shared with the world. Thankfully there are so many ways to self publish or get with a small publishing house and still have major success as an author. I would stress to any author or self publisher to take time to learn the book industry before they invest a cent into any project.
Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
I ask God to give me topics that would reach the most people, impact the most people and change the most lives. As I said earlier, a large portion of my writing is from personal experiences and I think that readers of self-help are drawn to the truth. I don’t come at people as if I have all the answers or as if I am better than them but rather I show that in spite of what I’ve been through that success is still possible and I am currently on my journey right along with you. When people read my books they will always have a “Me too” moment where they can see themselves in my story- that’s what really draws them to my work.
When did you write your first book and how old were you?
Well I completed my first book in 2005 when I was 30 but I have been writing since the 7th grade. My first love has always been songwriting (lyrics) and I wrote my first song in the 7th grade to a girl I had a crush on. I still remember that song. I started a music publishing company in 1999 and have written over 100 songs. I’m still trying to get them recorded though.
What do you like to do when you're not writing?
I enjoy reading and checking out other author’s books. I also enjoy meeting new people through my radio show and motivational speaking. I love watching and playing sports.
What does your family think of your writing?
Let’s just say I was expecting a lot more support from them than I received. My first book was about success and I wrote it during one of the most seemingly unsuccessful times in my life to them. My family gauged success by material possessions and asked “What do you know about success?” but I knew better. I learned real quick who I could and couldn’t share my dreams with.
What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
I was surprised by just how many people go into creating a great book and how long the process really takes. For my first book I did everything myself but edit. For my new book, I hired a photographer, editor, cover designer, publicist, layout designer and so on. It is my goal to put out books that can hold their own on the shelf next to any book so I have to pay to play with the big boys. When you’re an independent publisher, you already have one strike against you so you can’t nickel and dime when it comes to putting the book together if you seek mainstream success.
How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?
I’ve written two books and right now they’re both my favorite. Success Is In Your Hand is my favorite because it was my first and it has changed so many lives. My Little Black Book is my favorite because I know that there has never been anything like it written before and it will be such a major success. It’s a funny, sexy and life changing book of leadership lessons I learned from my ex-girlfriends.
Do you have any suggestions to help me become a better writer? If so, what are they?
The one suggestion I give all writers is to stay true in your writing. Stay true to who you are and write from a genuine place in your heart. Readers can feel truth and are attracted to that truth. I could probably make a lot of money if I was to write an urban fiction novel but I would not be happy and complete because that’s not true to whom I am. Never let money motivate your writing.
Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
It gets overwhelming sometimes when readers tell me just how much my book impacted their lives. I knew the purpose of my book was to help others to walk in their purpose but I still get amazed that God would see fit to use me to help so many people. I give Him all the glory for the success people gain from not just reading my book but actually putting into action the lessons I teach.
