The book Black Women are Crazy as Hell calls attention to real issues within the black population, particularly those related to black women and common pitfalls that they experience in relationships. The book begins by presenting statistics showing that black women have lower rates of marriage and higher rates of abortion and out-of-wedlock pregnancy than any other group. This provides a segue into the main subject of the book, which consists of five anecdotes detailing particularly “crazy” episodes involving black women in relationships. These include:
-
Mario tires of Daphne’s demanding, self-centered ways, and later begins dating Kiana, Daphne smashes his windshield with a baseball bat and destroys the hood of his car with a high-heeled shoe.
-
Tiffany sleeps with Terrence on their first date, despite the fact that they had only met over the Internet a few days prior, she becomes pregnant with his child. She then finds out he is already in a relationship with someone else and has several other children with different women.
-
Kwami is infatuated with Stacey , and makes the mistake of ignoring her past history . When she cheats on him, Kwami is badly hurt, but eventually regroups from the relationship and begins dating Heather, a white woman. Stacey goes so far as to deface Kwami’s neighbor’s car (believing it to be Kwami’s own!) with a torrent of acid and the words WHITE BITCH.
The book portrays these relationships as being far from atypical, a guide to What Black Men Really Want in a Woman (hint: it’s not what media stereotypes say they want!) and a helpful FAQ telling you everything you ever wanted to know about relationships, but didn’t know how (or who!) to ask.
